Description

Instructor Marcus White is the owner of Casa Blanca Horticultural Services, a landscape service and installation contractor, and Desert Natives Inc., grower of cacti and succulents.  He came to Southern Arizona in 1992 because of his attraction to the diverse and interesting plant and animal life and the amazing habitat they occupy. Employed in the ornamental horticulture industry in Southern New Mexico and Arizona for over 30 years, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture in 1987 from New Mexico State University followed by a Masters in Horticulture in 1990.

  • Gain a basic understanding of plant morphology useful in identifying plants in the landscape (structure/shape, trunk/stem, leaves, flowers and fruit)
  • Learn to identify 60+ plants in the Tucson landscape
  • Gain an understanding of specific plant species use as it pertains to form, function and ornamental characteristics
  • Learn maintenance strategies for individual plant species

Due to the rigorous pace of the classes, having earned a Smartscape Certificate in the professional series is a prerequisite to register for Advanced Smartscape.

 

 

 

Completion Requirements

Attendance and participation in all three classes is required for successful completion of Advanced Plant Identification & Maintenance.
