Pima Advanced Smartscape en Español: Urban Tree Management Registration Instructions
Completion of the Smartscape course is required before taking any Advanced courses.
Each class is 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday February 8, 9, 10.
In this three-part series, participants will receive in-depth knowledge about managing the trees in our urban desert community. Topics include structural assessment, stem strength, tree failure prevention, pruning, irrigation and general arboriculture science.
- Compartmentalization of Decay in Trees – Explains “CODIT”, which is the model adapted by the tree care industry as the basis of the standard for pruning. Learn how trees form barriers to prevent the spread of pathogens after they have been wounded.
- Structural Assessment, Risk, & Mitigation – Describes major tree forms, how to prune for structural integrity, proper pruning practices, and how to assess for tree management and site conditions.
- The Impacts of Drought on Ornamental Plants – Demonstrates signs and symptoms of drought, and how to reduce and manage drought stress.
